  1. Winchester Model 94 Serial Numbers

If possible, I'd like to get in on this. One of my Winchesters is a Classic Sporter,.270 w/Boss. It has a strange Serial Number according to the others listed on this thread: G100XX.

Hello, I am new to this forum and want to extend a; hello, how ya doin? To everyone who reads this post.About me, I am 40 and live in central florida. I own/carry a glock model 30 for personal defense. A wonderful gun, easy to take care of, indestructable, and reliabilty/accuracy to boot. I recently purchased a Winchester Model 70 in 30.06 springfield.

I know it is at least post 1992 because it has a DBM, which according to the timelines posted here first appeared in 1992. I am hoping it is post 1994 due to the return of the pre 64' type action. I do believe it has a claw ejector but i'm not 100% sure that I am looking at it right to make that determination. I purchased it at AW Petersons (they clam to be the oldest gun shop in Florida??) but thier serial number book only went up to 1992. The serial number is G37766. I have looked and looked and looked; then I looked and looked some more but I can not find a serial number guide that goes past 1981 (when it was purchased by USRA).

The only other info I can add is that I do know it was made in the New Haven, CN. Plant due to that being engraved on the barrel.

Prison break season 1 download free. Also engraved is 30.06 DBM plus a couple other tidbits that I can't remember right now. Well, that's it for me. I welcome any responses especially as to the year this rifle was made.

I am very eager to find that out. Nice to meet you all. I appreciate the reply Jack, and as stated before I appologize for the double post. I guess my login expired while I was setting up my profile, so when I hit the xsubmit button it kicked me back to the logn page and I was unsure it it actually posted.

Also as stated, I have read the timeline, which is where I learned and deduced that the rifle I have is post 92'. Also, either on that timeline or in another post on this site, I read a statement that said post 92' serial numbers are very erratic and don't seem to follow much order as USRAC used left over numbers from the 60's and 70's era rifles.

That leads me to believe that a person can not go by the proximity to other peoples post 92' rifles serial numbers in order to even approximate a build date. The table that matches serial numbers to build years ends at 1981. This is where I have trouble. Who knows, maybe the info is not available and I'll have to be satisfied with knowing it is post 92'.

However, if anyone has a guide or any knowledge about the serial number G37766 for a Model 70, then please let me know. Again, thanks for any and all replies.

Well, the Model 70 Classic DBM (with the pre-64 style action) was available for only one year. The push feed version was produced from 1992 - 1994. Furthermore, there was a variation on each of the above, with a synthetic stock.

It is very easy to determine if yours is the Classic action or the PF (push feed) action. If the bolt has what appears to be a rail running along side it, it is a Classic CRF, if not, it is a PF. You seem to think yours is a Classic, and furthermore, the serial number range indicates a Classic to me. I don't think any push feeds were built in that serial number range.

But, who knows, I could be wrong! The pro's and con's of the DBM, versus the floor-plate style, or even a blind mag, isn't something I want to get into right now. Personally, I don't care for a DBM, because it's just one more thing to remember to take when I leave home to go hunting, something that is possible to lose, and then go thru he. trying to find a replacement mag.

If I had a Model 70 Classic DBM, I would probably keep it tho. It is a quite rare variation, and in 30 years or so, may be worth some money! Thanks to everyone for the replies. This forum is truely a wealth of information. I don't actually have the rifle in my possession yet but I am going to pick it up friday. I think I got a pretty good deal for the rifle. I paid $550 and it has a scope, albiet not a very good one.

To my very untrained eye it appears to be in excellent shape. It has one tiny scuff on the barrel approx. 6 inches from the muzzle, about the size of a #10 nail head. The only other flaw is in the stock there is a small dent in the wood near the foregrip, but the finish is not damaged so no raw wood is exposed. As for selling it cheap.no way Jim H, sorry. When I take possession Friday I will upload some closeups of the action and submit them for viewing, if that is possible on this forum. One other question, When did they actually begin production of rifles in the New Haven plant?

Winchester Model 94 Serial Numbers

In some of the timelines, if memory serves, said they began construction of the plant in 92' but did they actually produce rifles at that plant in 92'? Just curious. The DBM I don't think will bother me as long as it is functional and reliable.

This rifle will most likly spend a lot of time in my gun case and will punch more holes in paper than in animals. I do want to take a trip out west sometime before I die and hunt elk or some such animal, but locally I have no place to hunt on any kind of regular basis.

I do have one other detail about he rifle that may be helpful. It does have a diamond finish on the bolt, not sure if that is any help in determining build year or not. I want to say thanks so everyone again for having me on this site and I will do my best to make contributions. I'm a big time math guy and I am leaning toward learning more about ballistics and possibly pursueing a carrer in that field. Hi everyone, Just wanted to say thanks again for all your info on my rifles birthday. I picked the rifle up yesterday from the gn shop and was able to look at it very closely. It does in fact have the pre 64 type extractor and does have a rail running along the length of the bolt.

It is in fact a Classic DBM and has a fully function mag that came with the rifle and in very nice shape. Also, I was flipping through a book at the local bookstore, and in face the Classic DBM was offerd in 1994 and was disco. So anyone reading this, if you have a Classic, with pre-64 action, and is equiped with a DBM, it was made in 94. Thanks everyone for all your knowledge and I hope someday I can pass what I have already learned on to someone else. Thanks, Rob (aka winni).
