The '(Discontinued)' items are still there as of Nov 2017, but in my opinion they are preferable to the other options. When you select the (Discontinued) item download you are directly given a DVD ISO image just like before. When you select the non-discontinued options you are taken to an Office portal where you have to enter the license key and are then take to a page that encourages downloading a web-installer. There is an option to get an offline installer, but you have to do some reading and clicking of various links to get to it. The good news is that the offline installer is an ISO image (with a.img extension instead of.iso) that has the.same.

SHA1 hash as the (Discontinued) ISO download. At least the SHA1 is the same for the Office 2016 item - I didn't bother with anything but (Discontinued) items for any of the other products once I learned that. I'm not a fan of the games that MS is playing with MSDN downloads - they're just making it more confusing and difficult to find and learn what's available.
